Prepping Your Skin for Winter Weather
Jenna • November 10, 2017

Winter will be here before we know it! Although we don’t expect the temperatures to drop too much here in the Lone Star State, the seasonal change can still affect your skin. With a few adjustments to your skin care routine and some strategic spa treatments sprinkled in, you’ll be glowing all winter long.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize!

During the wintertime, we get a brief reprieve from heat and humidity. As the air becomes drier, so can our skin. In order to make up for this lack of additional moisture, it’s so important to make sure you’re adjusting your skin care regimen. If you’ve been using lighter moisturizers for the summer and fall, now is the time to opt for a richer cream. Don’t forget to protect your lips and hands as well, as these are often exposed to the elements. Invest in a nourishing lip balm and hand cream.

Avoid Stripping

As the temperatures drop, we often find ourselves upping the temperature of our bath or shower to warm up. While we can’t deny the cozy comfort a hot bath or shower brings, increasing the heat too much can dry out the skin, stripping it of its natural oils. Try to be mindful of the temperature of the water you’re using and shorten your bathing time when possible. Don’t forget to apply your favorite moisturizer afterward!

Be mindful of the type of cleanser you’re using on your skin as well – both face and body. Traditional soaps and harsher foaming cleansers can dry out the skin in general, but especially during the winter months. Try switching to a more gentle, emollient cleanser if you find that your skin is feeling tight or flaky.

In addition to changing up your skin care routine, there are quite a few spa treatments that are specifically good during the winter time.

Holiday Glow

Chemical peels are a great way to combat that “winter skin” look and get you glowing in time for the holidays. The fall and winter months are prime “peel” season because the sun isn’t quite as strong and we tend to spend more time indoors. If a chemical peel is your thing, it’s best to schedule those treatments now.

As with all of our treatments, your chemical peel will be suited to your skin type and your specific needs. Because of the nature of the treatment, we recommend scheduling your peel at least two weeks before any event or holiday party. Looking for something a little gentler that still gets you glowing? Try our Aroma Peel enhancement. It is an all-natural alternative to chemical peels made from a special blend of pure essential oils. Generally, six Aroma Peel treatments equal one chemical peel. There is no downtime with an Aroma Peel and it is well suited for all skin types.

Warm Up

Feeling a bit chilly? We offer a variety of treatments that will help to thaw you out of that winter chill. Try out our hot-stone massage, or enhance your usual massage with a warming our Stress Relief Backpack. Melt away the winter blues in our Infusion Tub or relax under the calming pressure of our Vichy Shower.

Have questions or looking to get a head start on your winter glow? Give us a call, we’re happy to point you in the right direction!

What is a Progressive Chemical Peel? For starters, a chemical peel is a resurfacing facial procedure that uses a chemical solution to remove the top layer of your skin. By removing dead skin and stimulating the growth of fresh, revived skin cells, a chemical peel accelerates cell turnover resulting in a smoother, more radiant appearance.
