Essential Oils at Their Core
Sabrina • August 18, 2017

We’ve all heard the term “essential oils” used before; however, how to best and properly use them to reap the many benefits they provide might not be so obvious. Essential oils provide great benefits to our skin, body, and hair, but they also aid in relaxation and emotional support. At Sanctuary Spa, we believe in using natural ingredients in our spa services because we love the holistic benefits they provide to the mind, body and spirit.

What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are the concentrated liquids or oils that are obtained by distilling the seeds, leaves, branches, wood, bark, berries, flower, sap, needles or peels from plant botanicals. The oil that is produced during distillation retains the powerful properties that control the plant’s functions, quite like how human hormones, proteins and enzymes keep our bodies functioning at their best. Because of their chemical components, essential oils increase the body’s ability to receive the nutrients it needs to maintain optimum health. Our bodies are able to identify the natural composition of the oils and can more easily assimilate them for their therapeutic use.

Each essential oil contains special constituents that make it versatile in application and can be combined with a complimentary oil to create a different aroma or to enhance their beneficial properties. For example, some essential oils help ease congestion, while others work best to aid mental clarity, and still others are best used for relaxation and skin care.

Benefits

Some of the most noteworthy benefits of essential oils are that they are hydrating, oxygenating, detoxifying, and can help boost your immune system. Essential oils are commonly used to moisturize the skin and hair, and also help prevent aging caused by environmental damage.

Essential oils also contain chlorophyll, which has been proven to increase the oxygen levels in the body. Moreover, using essential oils to massage and exfoliate allows the body to detoxify itself of unwanted elements.

Ultimately, using essential oils will help increase our ability to bring hydration, more oxygen, and more nutrients into the body, giving our cells the fuel needed to function at their optimal level.

Added Bliss

Shelf life of essential oils is 5-10 years, so don’t be deterred by the price. Remember, a little bit goes a long way, and your essential oils aren’t expiring anytime soon. Typically, you can feel the effects of essential oils as soon as 20 minutes after first application.

At Sanctuary Spa, we use all-natural aromatic essential oils by Source Vitál Apothecary to  provide optimal nourishment to your mind, body and spirit. Whether through topical use, aromatics, or inhalation, the incorporation of essential oils in your spa services creates a holistic experience unlike any other.

What is a Progressive Chemical Peel? For starters, a chemical peel is a resurfacing facial procedure that uses a chemical solution to remove the top layer of your skin. By removing dead skin and stimulating the growth of fresh, revived skin cells, a chemical peel accelerates cell turnover resulting in a smoother, more radiant appearance.
