I, Annie, was excited to team up with our in house Brow Goddess herself, Courtney, to get her perspective on all things brows & JKC. With the quarantine still in effect for many, & brow goals waiting to happen, let’s get the flowing with Court!
Quick background about you, how did you get to become such a brow slayer, Brow Confidant?! I’ve always been obsessed with my own brows, specifically giving myself that high arch that everyone loved. Before I became an esthetician, I would always go to nail salons to try to get the perfectly sculpted brow and no one could ever achieve it. When I enrolled in school 11 years ago, that was one of my biggest focuses. From then on, I was the only person who ever sculpted my own brows and I was able to achieve what I wanted. My brows and I have been through a lot. With my own personal experience in mind, I always wanted to give my guests the same experience when they were entrusting me with their brows. I became obsessed with listening to their goals and working on making it happen for them! With doing cosmetic tattooing- I am able to make their brow dream a reality!
Create Your Spa Day at Home
We’re big believers in the importance of self-care by going to the Spa ;). It’s especially important to follow through at home. Having a skincare routine at home will ensure that you’re taking good care of your skin, and that your facial you received is maintained. It also allows you to take a few minutes to yourself to decompress after a long day, or of course if you’re getting ready for the day. The products that our estheticians use are available for purchase– which makes it so much easier to recreate your facial at home. I personally have oily skin, so finding that perfect skincare routine has definitely been a challenge. After many, many years of trial and error, I think I’m finally onto something! To all of my oily-skinned ladies (and guys,) here are a few of my skincare steps that have benefited my skin and also my well being.
March is officially known as Women’s History Month — dedicated to recognizing the success of women and their incredible contributions to society. At Sanctuary Spa, we believe women should feel empowered to lift each other up and celebrate ever day, not just the big wins, but also the small acts of courage that help define and shape our gender. In honor of this and our 35th anniversary coming up, we’d also like to announce that 3% of our sales in the month of March will be donated to Dress for Success Houston.
The Chevron Houston Marathon is a big deal! Since 1972, this run has been inspiring Houstonians to take on new challenges and bring awareness to causes that matter to them. I admire all of the great athletes (33,000 of them!) that train for months leading up to the marathon to finish this great race.
This year, our very own Kim Bady has trained extensively to participate in the 2019 Chevron Houston Half Marathon. Not only is she running, but she’s running for a reason. The Run for a Reason Charity Program works with 64 nonprofit organizations. Last year, they raised over $1.8M! We are so proud of her. I sat down with Kim to ask her a few questions about her journey and understand which charity she is supporting.
November is a wonderful month to take pause, reflect on our lives and give thanks! At Sanctuary Spa we are thankful for a tremendous amount. Our family has a tradition I know a lot of families have for Thanksgiving, before eating our meal we go around the table and each person says what they are thankful for. We’d love to share some of what our spa family is thankful for this holiday season!
From our fantastic Eyebrow Specialist, Licensed Senior Esthetician & Lead Hair Removal Courtney:
I am grateful for my health (mental and physical), for my community of incredibly strong men and women who strive to be the best versions of themselves. I am grateful to have a career entirely focused on helping others feel better about themselves (and their brows). I am grateful for the unconditional love of my dogs and to know that kind of love and I am grateful for my strong relationship with my partner, his son and my family. I am also grateful for my work family and the endless opportunities I am given to grow.
While many save trips to the spa for special occasions, your overall health can benefit significantly from incorporating massage therapy into your health and wellness routine. From soothing chronic aches and pains, to speeding athletic recovery, the benefits of regular massage are plentiful. How often you should get a massage for optimal results depends on your lifestyle, as well as what you would like to accomplish through massage therapy.
Regular massage can help:
- Reduce stress
- Soothe chronic pain
- Elevate athletic performance
- Speed recovery time post injury/surgery
If you find that your stress levels are relatively low to mid-level, treating yourself to a massage once or twice a month should be sufficient for you to reap the benefits. Not only does massage calm the nervous system, but it helps increase blood and lymphatic circulation, improving your overall health. Those with physically taxing jobs or who work in high-stress environments should consider weekly massage sessions to help reduce stress.
Having crossed the threshold into my 30’s, the significance of my face has come to the fore. Despite my no-makeup policy, washing my hair with baking soda and vinegar, using a salt rock for deodorant, and keeping my upkeep simplistic and natural, I have been noticing little lines that don’t wash away, small changes near my eyes, subtle shifts where my smile happens in the cheeks. Balancing between accepting What Is and improving my epidermal state of affairs, I wanted to experience the ritual of the facial. Not all facials are created equal, so I am told; lucky for me my first facial happened at one of the top rated (and first) day spas Houston has ever had, Sanctuary Spa d’sante.
